Description

Last night was interesting. The forecast gave 'very poor' visibility for Weymouth so I wasn't too hopeful of getting any observing in. By 10pm it still looked clear to me so I set up and began taking a few alignment images. It looked ok, certainly not very poor, so I chose a nice high subject and hoped the seeing would hold up. Background was high so I didn't really hold out too much hope. I took a stack of 60 second images of M81, Bode's Galaxy, which I've never imaged before because it won't fit on my MX5C chip. The H9C gives a little larger fov so it fits a little better. Still not a lot of room. Anyway, the high cloud took the dge off the contrast and gave me a headache removing the high background but here's my effort at M81. Around about 60 x 60 second unguided exposures through my 10" reflector. With a little imagination you can just see the little dwarf galaxy, UGC 5336 to the right of M81. I used an IR filter for this one - next time I'll try my lpr filterand see if that helps. I'm sure we're all looking forward to getting some 'clear' nights at the weekend.
